This album is a move in a direction I hope they stay away from. His voice might not be the best one in the industry today but these guys continue to impress me. That is partly why every song you hear is a rock hard punch in the face. He has anger in his voice without even trying. He sounds like he is in pain when he sings. Sure, his voice sounds like he is trying too hard. And I am sure a lot of you are talking right now about his voice. Nickelback has, in the past, been able to produce albums that have cliche lyrics, typical guitar riffs, and still find a way to melt your face as they scream across the speakers. These rockers put on not only one of the best shows I have ever seen to date, they influenced me to become a concert addict. I was given two tickets to see Nickelback after they first hit the scene. I was working at Kroger at the time and we got promotions for shows from Ticketmaster all the time. When I went to my first concert (yeah, the first one ever) it was to see these guys at then called Deer Creek.

They could play any venue you put them in and sell it out because of their pure rock hard style and their incredible guitar playing. But you have to learn why every show they play at bigger venues every year sells out.

You are sitting there wondering why you are even bothering to read this post. And I do not even care if you get mad at that statement. I don’t care how many times the radio can play Photograph this band will go down as the modern day U2. Another year, another tour, another album, and another incredible piece of music.

Download Worthy: 1.All I can start by saying is that these guys have done it yet again. Moreover the album sounds like it's stuck in the past, delivering a sound that might once have been the staple of arena rock but now just sounds dated, derivative, and mundane. Nickelback have sorely missed the boat on that front. Sure, that's what rock 'n roll has always been about, but the classic bands of the genre have always been able to put a wry spin on the subject matter while still rocking hard.

The lyrics are easy to digest and deal with the brain numbing thematics of getting drunk and getting laid. This particular inclusion keeps the hard drinking shenanigans intact thanks to lyrics like "We get up/we go out/me and all my friends/we drink up/we fall down/and we do it all again." But it ultimately fails to bring anything new to the table in terms of becoming a dive bar jukebox classic.ĭark Horse is the epitome of what some might derogatorily call "frat rock". In a strange twist of genre spinning the band even takes a stab at generi-country rock on "This Afternoon". In fact, the album is top heavy with these kinds of songs: "Gotta Be Somebody", "I'd Come for You", the darkly tinged "Just to Get High", the acoustic trimmed "Never Gonna Be Alone", and the swirling "Today Is Your Last Day". When they aren't singing about hot bodies and getting drunk the quartet slips into the requisite power ballad that sounds like some long forgotten Bryan Adams ditty from the '80s, dusted off and brought back from the dead. Granted "Next Go Round" and "Shakin' Hands" are rife with chunky guitar, but the latter sounds suspiciously like a bygone Def Leppard number thanks to the goofy "Hey!" chants. Sadly even those moments of intensity are sorely lacking on this lean, 11-track effort. What Nickelback lacks in intelligent wordplay they have usually more than made up for in tasty licks and power chord riffage that just begs for air guitar shadow play from the listener. To wit, the very next song, "Burn It to the Ground" is all about getting hammered and raising havoc, whilst "S.E.X." says it all rather blatantly in the title. Teeming with crunchy guitars and over-the-top lyrics- "Got to meet the honey with the million dollar body/they say it's over budget but you'd pay just to touch it.-that sound as if they were written by a sex starved high school football player in the locker room, the track sets the tone for the rest of the album this is straight up knuckleheaded rock for the undiscerning. Canadian rockers Nickelback ain't gonna win any literary awards for their lyrical prowess as evidenced on "Something In Your Mouth", the opening salvo from their latest release.
